Exceptional Needs Dental Services
(E.N.D.S.) is a partnership of four Oregon Dental Care Organizations (DCOs). E.N.D.S. is owned by Capitol Dental Care, Managed Dental Care of Oregon, MultiCare
Dental, and Willamette Dental. E.N.D.S. has been providing mobile and hospital based dental care to these DCOs special needs patients since 1995.
E.N.D.S. provides services to Oregon
Health Plan (OHP) patients who are non-ambulatory or who have a severe developmental disability or a mental impairment. Patients have medical diagnoses that
consist of one and often more of the following: mental retardation, Alzheimer’s, dementia, cerebral palsy, heart problems, anxiety, quadriplegia, cervical spine
injury, schizophrenia, anemia, and hypertension.
Services are provided in the Portland
Metropolitan area, Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon and some coastal areas. Patients receive exams, cleanings, x-rays, restorations, extractions and
dentures.
E.N.D.S. dentists travel to nursing
homes, group homes, and in some cases, private homes to provide dental treatment and services to patients who are unable to go to a dental clinic for care.
E.N.D.S. providers also see patients for hospital based dental surgery under general anesthesia if the patient’s treatment needs cannot be met in the home setting.
E.N.D.S. contracts with traveling denturists to
provide denture services to patients who are edentulous or are missing teeth, and who are eligible for these services.
In addition, E.N.D.S. contracts with dental
hygienists who have Limited Access Permit (LAP) licensure which enables them to treat patients in a variety of care facilities. E.N.D.S. hygienists not only
provide mobile dental hygiene services to E.N.D.S. patients; they also perform assessments to identify patients in care facilities with unmet dental needs.
E.N.D.S. hygienists are available to deliver dental in-service training sessions to instruct nurses and care providers at facilities on how to provide oral
health care to residents. This service is available for a fee.
